The Client: Families with Adolescent Children

The Ask: Create materials to help strengthen parent-child communication to build emotional intelligence

Project Overview

This kit is a product of my undergraduate thesis, which aims to help parents create a culture of empathetic communication within their families by encouraging more openness, understanding, and empathy when communicating with their adolescent children. The Spill & Chill Family Bonding Kit has three objectives:

• To educate parents on how to exercise empathetic communication with their children
• To bridge parent-child communication gaps that usually arise during adolescence
• To provide an engaging avenue for holistic and formative family interactions that build connections

These objectives are each met by the components of the kit, which are displayed below.

Design Approach

Spill & Chill takes a clean maximalist approach for its visual design. This means bright colors, bold typography, and dynamic illustrations, all organized cohesively to ensure the clear delivery of information. Teenagers appreciate bright, colorful surprises that can grab their attention early. Spill & Chill aims to use bold designs to appeal to teenage users while still keeping the content organized and digestible enough for the family to understand.
